Thursday

Not every day do you see a Subaru on a snow board slope. Pretty cool stuff.

Monday, Monday.

-I usually get sucked into the Barrett-Jackson auction every year. This year, not so much. But I did watch the end of Saturday's acution. Here are a few cars of note:
They sold the rights to the first production Dodge Challenger. The numbers were not going high enough so Craig Jackson (part owner) started bidding on it from the stage and wound up buying it for $400K.
-They also had the first production 09 ZR1 Vette. It went to Dave Ressler for a cool million bucks. That is the same price he paid last year when he bought the oldest known 'vette (#3) in the world.
-The first GT500KR went for $550K to Ron Pratte. He is the guy that bought the Super Snake Cobra last year for $5.5 MILLION bucks last year. He also literally drove home the Superliner the year before that.
-Something got lost in the translation back to Engrish. Pretty funny, though.

Here are some great photos of liquids.

OMG

So now they are issuing search warrants to find out if the kids that were attacked by the tiger were taunting it or not. And if they were... then what? Charge the one that is still alive with teasing an animal and let the zoo off of the hook? I don't care what they were doing, the tiger should not have been able to get out of the cage. Let's not worry about that though.

Thursday

Here is a great article about the designs of Jonathan Ives.
Here is Bill Gates saying (in a round-about way) that Vista SUCKS.
THIS guy's rubber band gun will kick your rubber band gun's ass. (skip to about 1/2 way through the video to see it fire)
Here is a very light and cool car. Don't like the profile so much, but overall pretty slick.

Monday.... blaaah

I think we all need one of these one our coffee tables.

-Tomorrow is the Mac Expo. I have been reading a ton of stuff about what to expect. It is just so funny how Microsoft talks about crap they are going to make (which somebody else is usually already doing) and eventually the release it and it is still not ready. On the other hand Apple works hard to keep it secret and we have people surfing the patent office and monitoring suppliers so they can speculate what will be next. Most folks are thinking that they will release a ultra portable flash based sub notebook thingy. It will be fun to see.

-I finally got my Harmon Kardon Drive+Play after a MONTH of waiting. I was wondering how bright the LCD display would be. I might mount it on the dash but was afraid it would be distracting at night. I hooked it up to the power and it did not friggin work. Sheez. But last night my boss called me to see if I would mind coming over and going to Best Buy to pick up her new TV in my truck. As I was driving over, I noticed it was powered up. SCHWING!!! There is a cigarette lighter adapter that I won't use when I install it, but I plugged it in there just to power it up. There is an LED on the plug that lit up when I plugged it into the "power" outlet next to the cigarette lighter. I assumed that meant it had power with the key off. But I guess not. It really makes no sense to me. It would seem to have power since the LED comes on and the screen lights up and says "Harmon Kardon" and then goes to sleep. But it does not work with the key off.

FRIDAY!!!!

WHOOT!
-So there is a teacher working on his computer at the front of the classroom. But it turns out he is actually in a sex chat room with a 12 year old girl. How did he get caught? Probably because the computer was still hooked up to the overhead projector.

-My computer monitor was dirty today. I had heard about this website where you could go and it would clean your monitor. I could not believe it was true, but it really works.

-14 year old Polish boy modifies a TV remote and derails 4 trains.

sunday

Mary and I went to a reception for one of the senior partners at her firm who is retiring. It was held in the penthouse of the plaza towers. It was most impressive, although entirely not to my liking as far as style. Cement floors, all white walls, steel, and every exterior wall is 100% glass. 13th and 14th floors up gives a great view of the city. I would just always feel like I was on display and it was a very cold environment. But if you like that style it was really amazing. There are actually 2 penthouses with a removable wall between them through the identical kitchens.
Speaking of that, one of the other partners and his wife really like to cook. So I guess they have his and hers gourmet kitchens that are adjacent to each other. Must be nice.

-Wow. Here is a final blog post from a soldier in Iraq. He gave it to a friend in case he was killed over there. Here is a clip from it:
I suppose I should speak to the circumstances of my death. It would be nice to believe that I died leading men in battle, preferably saving their lives at the cost of my own. More likely I was caught by a marksman or an IED. But if there is an afterlife, I'm telling anyone who asks that I went down surrounded by hundreds of insurgents defending a village composed solely of innocent women and children. It'll be our little secret, ok?
